THE INCIDENCE OF BETA-THALASSEMIA MINOR IN PREGNANT FEMALES BY MEASURING HBA2 THROUGH HIGH PERFORMANCE LIQUID CHROMATOGRAPHY

Objectives: The aim of the study was to incidence thalassemia minor by determining HbA2 levels in pregnant females attending Obstetrics and Gynaecology OPD husbands positive for beta-thalassemia trait. Methods: prospective spanning over 1½ years conducted Department Pathology 1020 who attended Government Medical College, Patiala antenatal check-up. any trimester without specific sign symptoms whose Hb level <10 g/dL were screened study. Levels HbF determined high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) cases with raised value above cutoff limit (>3.5%) labeled as BTT. Husbands BTT also Incidence all these calculated analyzed statistically. Results: majority age group 21–30 years. In present study, we found that total 134 (13.1%) patients having beta only 2 (1.49%) them be positive. Conclusion: HPLC has advantage screening detection various hemoglobinopathies providing rapid accurate results. can detect measure a single system. Early diagnosis management help reduction burden on society well government.
